July 2 China junk not just a boat!
Today we filled the brake system with fluid and discovered (not surprised) that the crappy steel tubing we purchased (all that was available) didn't hold up to the pressure of the big Corvette master cylinder. However, Bryson and I re plumbed the car tonight and now we have 4Wheel 8 Piston big disc brakes. Bryson has turned into a very important part of the team. He is very careful and thinks about every move he makes, a nice trait in a racer.
Thanks Bryson!
Transmission and engine next to get ready for dyno. Oh yest also install drive shaft and align power train.

NitroLube it up! CANADA DAY
July 1 2009, a milestone in the project as today we lubed the differential and pushed the button to send 12volts of Federal Battery power to the pump. IT WORKED just as it was supposed to and yes we videoed it. But I am not sure how to put it on the blog!
I will check with Brian Beesley, he always figures this computer photo stuff out.
The front drive lube system
This system is very unique to say the least!
OTT's Ben and Chris designed the differential to run upside down and backwards so that it would become front wheel drive unit. They also made allowances for the fact that the pinion bearing would need oiling from above and that the seal would be in danger if the pressure was too great. There was a solution, put a gravity drain bung at the top and a sump on the bottom to pick up the oil to bring it back to the tank. Aggressive Tube Bending donated a brass gear pump and Werner built a drive system using a winch motor and filter. We also built an oil tank and Kevin Knox of Diversions made the casing for the drive and laser engraved it with GOLDENHAWK.
Cockpit almost complete!
Werner has been hard on it for the past few weeks. First the shifter and then the throttle were completed and now he is remounting the dash so yours truly can reach the switches. he is also fabricating the parachute release mechanism. It will allow one handle to deploy one chute or two as the driver can push or pull it to release one or two. Smart idea by the crew chief and co-driver. I think Dan also had a hand in the design.

Dan Tackles new task
Dan Nayoski, is quite willing to take on a challenge as is evident as he prepares a template to take to LONE STAR in Port Kells. They will form an aluminum cowl top for that part of the car to replace the damage piece of plastic body. We will then attach the lower portion of the original piece to the cowl. This will relieve the stress put on the cold formed piece. Stay tuned to see the finished piece.
The Original Fast Guys _ Bonneville's Finest

Some of the fans identified one of the team from the old photo. Now they are current news in the Vancouver Sun.
250 plus mph in a Vega body!
Great accomplishment and a brave bunch to drive it at that speed.
I am nominating them to the Canadian Automobile Hall of Fame.
Come and see them at Bonneville.
Dean's friend Ron Walker Ron Walker
Dean C came over on Father's Day to show his friend Ron Walker (red shirt) the Goldenhawk. I was most surprised to learn that he was a young boy hanging around with his Uncle Rollie. That is Rollie Walker whose 72 Chevelle Super Stock (see Randy's racers back on our website).
It just goes to show you racers all go in circles at some time!

Attilla's Specialty is in the movies.
As you can see from these pictures, Attillia Vaski is also working on the cameras for the tail section. One facing forward and one facing back from the struts on the tail. (Which were thoughtful designed by Darryl Murphy of MURPHY AIRCRAFT when he hand built the piece).
The third camera will be in cockpit and aimed at the driver or out the forward of the canopy. Special thanks to Attillia and his co-worked who are suppling the camera for the tail.
note: Also the tail will have a strobic/type light to attract attention at the shows and while being transported on the trailer/float/display.
Duct tape is for fabricators!!
However, after thinking it over I will seek the services of a welder tomorrow, but aside fron that the intake and turbo are ready. The exhaust will need some attention as I plan to change the operation and fix the lower part so that the upper half will flex.
Watch for it on the days to come. Not this may be after the dyno day, but before Nic Boos begins to air brush all the air work on the car.
HAPPINESS IS A SUCCESSFUL COMPOUND MITER FOR THE NITROUS MANIFOLD!
Tail is ready to go!
Finally, after much measuring and fitting and aquiring parts the tail plate is complete, until the car goes 300mph and then the top (second) Parachute will be installed.
Note the 110volt receptacle for the a/c and the 12volt quick connects for the booster and battery charger as well as the main power kill switch. We will apply the decals etc after we dyno the car.
Dean Culchesky joins the battle for Bonneville Record
Dean is one of the people who have been following on the blog and answered my cry for help and assistance. Dean is an avid motorcyclist on his way to a concert in LA aboard his beautiful and beloved VICTORY "scooter". He is also attempting to round up a tow truck for the trip to Bonneville and to the various venues we have booked in the fall.
Good luck and a safe ride to you!
Regards,
Randy
COOL-IT HIGHWAY GROUP LIVES UP TO ITS NAME
Steve Zaeri and Adam Gibbard and the professional technicians HIWAY GROUP were on hand at 1244 Riverside Road in Abbotsford,BC to present GOLDENHAWK Team with the 12v electric water pump for the Cummins B Series. These pumps are great for truckers and racers alike as they save valuable horsepower and that gives greater speed or more mileage.
Be sure to call 604-852-5848 or email adam@cool-it.ca

CUSTOM CABLES WERE THE ORDER OF THE DAY FOR THROTTLE AND SHIFTERS.
When I picked them up at PORT KELLS BRANCH on 96Ave. in Surrey,I had the pleasure of meeting Jerry Friesen General Manager (brown shirt) and of course you all recognized Trevor Jewkes (branch manager) from the build of the 10,000 rpm drive shaft for the GOLDENHAWK.

NITROLUBE - Seeing Is Believing - Amazing lube products
Thank you Jason Rite of NITROLUBE for conducting the friction tests on all the available high performance and standard lubes.
His products are by far the best for lubricity.
The fuel lube is a new and very interesting product. I am hoping Gordon Reid and the team at NW FUEL will perform a test on the pump dyno to see what a difference it makes in the diesel fuel. When they do I would like to film and document the results, this product will change the diesel fuel burning world.
All the rest are slightly better that stock cheap oils but NITROLUBE is the only lube products we shall put in the Goldenhawk, grease fuel transmission and engine.
By the way Geoff Bardall of COLT CAMS was the first to show test results on the cam lobe test. It was him that sold me on NITROLUBE.
Be sure to check their website, on our links.
Regards,Randy

HAPPY DAYS

Ben & Bryson Burn Midnight Oil
JD SAFETY Chutes Here!!!
You know your getting to the end of the build part when the Safety equipment is a priority. This parcel contained the chute and the neck support. All that's left to get is the explosion blanket for the transmission. This is a sore point with me as the transmission is Dodge diesel torqueflite, it is 5 feet in front of the cockpit and behind half a ton of steel Cummins plus 3/16 aircraft aluminum firewall. I have never seen a torqueflite spit parts out much less explode. Well that's my rant for today.

Bryson is our Anchor!
To keep this ship moving forward is a tough task when you are trying to juggle two businesses and family and home maint. Thankfully, Bryson has come to the project and is very steady, methodical and intelligent in his approach to details. Bryson works during the days and at nights comes to the Big Top to work mostly alone on the final assembly of each component. He often finds pieces that are in need of tweaking or some bits that have been over looked or damaged during the fitting and fabrication process. Takes his general direction from Werner and me but mostly he is thoughtfully ahead of us. THANK YOU BRYSON!!!!

Late to bed early to work, exhaustion at post time!
Shouldn't feel sorry for myself because I started this project, but sometimes it drags your energy down a bit.
BUT!
Hey everyone is busy, Everyone has a life (except me). I am contracting to the Dept of Energy to pay for the current and past costs of the build, on Tues, Thursday, Saturday, 10.5 to 11,5 hours a day and then 12 -15 hours in office and admin time, and the Bailiff business is brisk adding another 3-5 files a week, or (18-20 hrs) minimum per week. And I work at promoting the Goldenhawk everyday for at least and hour (5hrs) plus organise and expedite parts and coordinate trades and workers that are volunteer on Sundays (6hrs). Add this to ,mowing lawns (2hrs), home maint.working out (5) and walking the dog, (5hrs.).
So lets see: 37.5 + 15 =52,5hrs
52.5+20+ 5 +6+2+5=88 Hrs a week.
Now 24x7days is 168hrs.
168 -work (88.5)=79.5 hours
Sleep 7x8=56 ,
88-56=23.5Hrs a Week.
But -----------------
Meals and shaving and showering household chores 5 hrs/day x7=35
23,5-35= leaves me -11,5hrs sleep per week. This makes no sense!
Good night you all!
Randy

Young Guns lend a hand
What these guys lack in experience is surely offset by their youthful strength. They were absolutely required to fit the nose on tail on the car without the crane, just brute force.
Left to right: New Neighbour, Cody Gillis, Chris Sprenger, (Werners son) and Josh.
Thanks guys and we look forward to your promised help next week and weekend.
Have fun camping this week end and don't like the Bears get you. Play Safe!
"I go where Im towed" ,says the Hawk.
This time the Hawk is up on the landing gear and on its way to "the big top!" A large tent set up to accommodates the full body and soon to be modified to hold the vertical stabilizer (tail fin ). It was a ling cold winter in my garage and although progress was slow we did manage to get the engine and transmission mounts redesigned and manufactured. Thanks to the clever designs of Kevin Knox (Diversions) and Sean's precision cutting at Frankforth's WaterJet Cutting. And last but not least Aggressive Tube Bending's Andre. He is an excellent welder and volunteer many days two years ago to build the chassis. THANK HEAVEN for good friends. "HAPPY EASTER!"
Especially to the crew that are coming out SUNDAY to get organised for their assigned tasks.
